The API 579-1 / ASME FFS-1 standard for fitness for service provides guidelines for assessing fire damage and shell distortion.  Implementing these guidelines requires a methodology that accurately quantifies the damage and analyzes its consequences.  The ability to do so is particularly challenging when the vessel is large and accessibility is limited.

This presentation introduces a methodology for conducting integrity assessment of large fire-damaged vessel that uses laser scans, nonlinear finite element analyses, and a newly-developed software for processing of laser scan data.  The methodology is illustrated using case studies.
