Alternative Welding methods, such as controlled-deposition, temper-bead welding repair method has been accepted and approved for field use by the existing repair codes. It has been used in lieu of PWHT to successfully affect field repairs in pressure containing components that have been included impact tests as part of the original code of construction or not, in cases where PWHT was impractical or inadvisable. Test data from case studies covering a wide range of in-situ repairs, components and industries will be presented. This presentation discusses the existing conditions that were assessed and repair methodology that was used to return these components to operation and extend their life. This paper also discusses the methodology used to satisfy the requirements of NBC RD- 1010, Welding Methods as Alternatives to Postweld Heat Treatment, as well as additional customer and/or State imposed requirements.
